Turtle Head at Red Rock Canyon

This particular hike was done by Linda on a solo trip on 11/10/01.

This trail head hike is 5 miles, (2.5 miles up and 2.5 miles back down), and is listed as "difficult" on the trail head marker.

Turtle Head looming up in the background.  My route will take me up to the left and around to the back of Turtle Head where I will eventually stand at the top of the face and overlook Red Rock, Calico Basin, Las Vegas Valley.

Facing the other direction from Turtle Head is Red Rock Canyon...this ridge is white sandstone and is part of the 'Sandstone Quarry' rock formation.  The mountains in the background are the walls surrounding Red Rock.

The trail...it comes up out of a wash and turns to the right, eventually facing Turtle Head.
