Traveling up the wash brings them to an 'S' shape in the wash.  The pilings on the right designate a mine in the canyon wall.  The two tunnels that are marked by red arrows once had tracks in them and the ore was carried through them in mine cars.  These tunnels are approximately 30 feet from the bottom of the wash.  Stan and Linda did climb up the ridge from the other side and walk through one; the  footing was too treacherous to make it to the next one so they gave up and went back to explore the wash and the up and coming Narrows.

This mine tunnel is directly in front of them after rounding the curve you see in the picture above.  If you look closely, you can see the timbers shoring up the entrance.  Notice the rock that has fallen in the entrance and the unique color and formation of the rock surrounding the entrance.

After the 'S' curve in the wash, it widens out dramatically.  Two mine shafts and remnants of the dig are very obvious on the right hand wall of the wash.  Those pictures are not included here.  Directly in front of them is the beginning of the Narrows.  It appears to be impassable from this photo...what an eye opener...carved by millions of years of water and wind erosion, it has to be seen to be truly appreciated.
