On hikes and climbs into Calico and Red Rock, we have seen, coyote, tarantulas, big horn sheep, wild burros, a variety of birds, rabbits, chipmunks, a Gila monster, deer, and some of the most beautiful scenery one could ever hope to behold - include the stark, harsh beauty of the desert, the peace and quiet of nature and you've just stepped into one of my favorite places. The hiking/climbing group consist of poker players and dealers and anyone else that's interested in exploring the beauty of a land that surrounds Las Vegas. Red Rock Canyon is accessed through a gated entrance - Park Fee is $5 per car. The 1 way loop road allows access to rock climbing, trail heads, and scenic views. Calico Basin is accessed through a County maintained road which leads to a picnic/scenic area. Private residences line the road and encompass the right side of the valley...the left side of the valley is comprised of incredible ridges and valleys that connect to Red Rock Canyon. The fee to access Lake Mead is also $5, although the booths are closed at certain times of day. A monthly or yearly pass may be purchased for all the park entrances in Nevada.
